Melquise Stovall runs Paraclete into the Mid Valley Finals

(Lancaster)- Paraclete’s Andrew Jimenez’s 18-yard field goal with 40 seconds remaining defeated and dethroned the three time champion Monrovia Wildcats, 22-21, Friday evening at Antelope Valley College to advance to the 2013 Mid-Valley Division Finals.

With 40 degree weather at kick-off the game featured two very explosive running games. In fact, with the exception of the eventual winning field goal, the entirety of the evenings scoring was conducted on the ground.

Paraclete running back Melquise Stovall provided the bulk of the Spirits’ offense, carrying the ball for 203 yards on 30 carries, while scoring on runs of 24 and 47-yards. Running back Charles Green also found the end zone for Paraclete, scoring on a 2-yard scoring drive.

The balance of the Spirits’ scoring came on a game winning field goal of 18-yards, off the foot of kick Andrew Jimenez.

Monrovia’s scoring was provided by Kurt Scoby, who scored on runs of 4 and 17-yards. Scoby ran for 186 yards on 16 carries. Monrovia’s final score of the evening was provided by Darione Jones. Jones found the end zone on a 4 yard blast with 8:46 remaining in regulation.

***Monrovia provided all of the scoring in quarter two, which was Scoby’s 4-yard run.

***Halftime was Paraclete 12 Monrovia 7.

***The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. After three, the score was

Paraclete 19- Monrovia 14.

***Monrovia took their only lead of the game in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run. The lead would be brief, as Paraclete added the game winning field goal with 40 seconds remaining in regulation
