(Glendora) – Azusa Pacific led by as many as 11 points in the first half and by seven at the break but couldn’t finish it off in an 82-75 loss to Dixie State Monday night at the Felix Event Center.
The Cougars had four players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field in the first half but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Red Storm. APU cooled off in the second half as they were outscored by Dixie State by 14.
***Tyler Monroe led the Cougars with 17 points while Robert Sandoval netted 15. Troy Leaf and Sharif Watson each had 12.
***Azusa Pacific shot just 33 percent from the field in the second half after shooting 50 in the first and were outscored 45-31.
***Zach Robbins, who hails from Upland, led the Red Storm and all scorers with 27 points going 7 for 13 from the field and 13 of 14 from the free throw line.
***Dixie State out rebounded APU 42-37.
***Azusa Pacific went on a 10-1 run in the first half to lead 31-20 with 6:31 left in the first half- the Cougars biggest lead of the game.
***The seven point final margin was Dixie State’s biggest lead of the game.
***Louis Garrett and DeQuan Thompson joined Robbins in double figures with 15 and 10 respectively.
***Dixie State led early in the first quarter before falling behind. The Red Storm regained the advantage in the fourth 63-62 with 8:53 left.
***The Red Storm had a big advantage in free throws making 28 compared to 16 for APU.
***Azusa Pacific dropped to 9-6 overall and 5-4 in the Pacific West Conference while Dixie State improved to 14-2 and 8-2.
