When Jake Payton left San Dimas for Bonita, the Saints were written off. When SD started the season 0-4, anyone still on the bandwagon slithered away. Joseph Mayorga’s addition to the offense was viewed as nice, but not world changing.

The world might not have been changed by Mayorga, but the Mid-Valley division was impacted.

After missing the opening, Mayorga was like a bullet train the rest of the way as he rushed for 1,869 yards and 18 touchdowns (19 total). Mayorga was the big play-maker and it was his touchdown run late in the contest against Paraclete that gave San Dimas the CIF title.

The numbers look really good; 8 games over a 100 yards rushing, 6 times over 150 yards, 3 times over 200 yards, and a herculean 337 yard, 4 touchdown performance Against Arroyo in the semifinals. However, it still came down to the plays he made and when he made them.

No doubt this man had help in Fausto Martinez and a terrific offensive line, but he was the lightening strike opponents didn’t expect. “The Count” made a very good team a CIF champion.

Congrats.
