Azusa Pacific Wave Too Much for BYU-Hawaii

(Glendora) – Azusa Pacific had five players in double figures and it proved to be more than enough in an 85-69 win over BYU-Hawaii Thursday night at the Felix Events Center.

Tyler Monroe led the way with 22 points, Robert Sandoval had 15 and Troy Leaf and Bertram Hall each tossed in 13 in the well balanced attack. Kevin Stafford knocked down three three pointers and finished with 11.

***APU led 34-24 at the half shooting 51 percent compared to just 32 percent for BYU-Hawaii.

***Cory Lange led BYU-Hawaii with 23 while Luke Aston had 13.

***Lange was 13 for 13 from the free throw line six for 12 from the field.

***APU shot 58 percent from the field and 47 percent from three point land compared to 37 and 27 for BYU-Hawaii.

***APU was outrebounded 32-30.

***The Cougars biggest lead was 20 with 10:34 left in the contest.

***BYU-Hawaii shot 42 free throws and made 30 for 71 percent while APU was 17 for 23-73 percent.

***APU trailed only once in the game-early in the first half.

***Monroe was 10 of 12 overall from the field including a three pointer.

***The Cougars hit eight from beyond the arc overall compared to five for BYU-Hawaii.

***Only ½ game separates the two teams in the PacWest Conference. APU improved to 8-7 in conference and 12-9 overall while BYU-Hawaii dropped to 9-7 and 11-11.

***There were 926 fans in attendance.
