Muir’s David Madrid signs with Central Connecticut State.

“Dean Meminger was quicker than 11:15 Mass at a seaside resort.”—Al McGuire

Kick it!

Congrats to Muir quarterback David Madrid for signing a letter of intent to play football at Central Connecticut State. Madrid, currently 6-4, 205 pounds, went 12 of 20 passing for 228 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs against Los Altos in the second round of the Southeast playoffs in November.

CCS saw his highlight video at South Pasadena in 2012 and his brief tenure playing for Muir and made an offer. We say congrats and Godspeed.

Where did all this local baseball come from?

The New York Jets cut wide recevier Santonio Holmes. A former Super Bowl MVP, he just turned 30, played in just ten games in 2013…the career is just about over.

I know it was a big deal for Blake Griffin to score 37 points last night against the Phoenix Suns…We should all live to score 37 points in an NBA game…but for a guy his size to grab only six rebounds, he should be embarrassed.

After not seeing any college basketball this season (except the recent APU-Point Loma game) do I have the right next Thursday to park it at Buffalo Wild Wings all day watch the NCAA Tournament?

Reminder…barring some CIF divisional switcheroo…Melquise Stovall is only going to be a junior for Paraclete. Something for the San Dimas faithful to keep in mind.

The El Monte High School Football 9th Annual Golf Tournament is coming up on April 18th. The four person scrabble will be held at San Dimas Canyon Golf Course. Contact Joel Sanchez (626-926-6108) or Gilbert Garcia (626 533-3536) for more info.

Good news for the Monsoons: Mayfair quarterback Isaiah Jackson will be back next season. I hadn’t heard any rumors but this has been a very turbulent off season for Southeast Division quarterbacks, so we checked it out.

Live and Learn: I didn’t know former Monrovia and Bassett HC Leon Ward was once the head coach at Mayfair.

I don’t have the eyes of a coach, and one told me he was better in 2012 than he was in 2013, but I really like Lynwood quarterback Darryl Robinson.

The Indianapolis Colts have resigned Adam Vinatieri to a two year contract. This guy has won four Super Bowls, with two different teams, and has been in the NFL as long as high school seniors graduating this May/June have been alive.

Interesting conversation with a local coach;

Joe T.: Against a no-huddle, shotgun, passing spread offense. What coverage is best? Man or Zone?

Coach: Pressure the quarterback.

Joe T.: What if you don’t have the personnel?

Coach: Pressure the quarterback.

Joe T.: What if…

Coach: …Pressure the quarterback.

Regards:

In regards to the sock basket: There’s nothing about it that is remotely human!

In regards to Audarrius Bailey: I remember the night Arcadia’s Jon Dimalante moved him from tailback into the slot position against Temple City.

In regards to the LA Kings eight straight wins: Haven’t seen one of them, but excited about the playoffs.

In regards to Pomona quarterback Darreon Lockett: He’s a very dangerous football player.

In regards to Dean Meminger: Meminger was an All-American for Al McGuire at Marquette and led the Warriors to the NIT title in 1970. He had a modest pro career. Meminger is famous for saying: “If you don’t play ball, you can’t hang out.”

The Dude abides…
