1. Manhattan Coach Steve Masiello has been placed on leave by the school while they review his degree status from the University of Kentucky. Masiello had agreed in principle to a five-year deal with South Florida but the agreement was terminated after they conducted a background check.

2. The Chicago district of the National Labor Relations Board rule that Northwestern football players can unionize.

3. The Chicago Bears sign defensive end Jared Allen to a four-year deal.

4. Dodger ace Clayton Kershaw will miss his scheduled start Sunday against the Padres due to an inflamed muscle in his back.

5. This season the Chicago White Sox will offer a 12 scoop, 3 pound banana split sundae served in a full-size batting helmet for $17.00.

6. LeBron James scores 38 points but it’s not enough in an 84-83 loss to the Pacers. Indiana leads Miami by three games in the Eastern Conference.

7. Alhambra’s Adam Rodriguez is hitting .433 with seven RBI and 10 runs scored in the first 11 games. The Moors are 8-3 and 2-0 in the Almont League.

8. Monrovia pitcher Brian McConnell has 15 strikeouts in 14 innings with a 2.00 ERA.

9. Happy Birthday to former Dodger Bill Sudakis who turns 68 today.

10. On this date in 1978 Kentucky beats Duke 94-88 to win the NCAA championship. Jack “Goose” Givens pours in 41 points to lead the Wildcats.
