1. Kansas freshman center Joel Embiid announces he will enter the NBA draft.

2. The Angels’ Josh Hamilton will miss 6-8 weeks with a torn ligament in his thumb.

3. Rosemead (6-0 in the MVL) has outscored Mt. View 25-3 in two games this year.

4. Sophomore Alfred “Black” Arcos threw a complete game and freshman Juanito Sanchez went three for four to lead South El Monte to a 9-5 win over El Monte Wednesday in MVL action.

5. Victor Martinez belts a home run in the tenth inning off of Kenley Jansen and the Tigers beat the Dodgers 7-6 in ten innings Wednesday night.

6. “I told Pat this was a bad idea. Pat was on a mission to three-peat and he wasn’t thinking entirely logically. The guys needed rest. When we drove to Santa Barbara I told him ‘Pat if you turn the screw one more time it’s going to break.’ He got (ticked) off at me and told me the guys were at the top of their games and we had to leave no stone unturned. 8. USC Coach Steve Sarkisian will name the starting quarterback before the Trojans conclude workouts April 19. Junior Kody Kessler and redshirt freshman Max Browne have been sharing snaps throughout the spring.

9. Happy Birthday to John Madden who turns 78 today.
