(Azusa)-Gladstone coach Albert Sanchez had his troops ready to play Friday night, but could not help but look back at last week’s 14-7 loss to defending Montview League champion Azusa and think what if. After going into the fourth quarter with a 7-6 lead. “(We’re) three and one now,” said Sanchez. “We lost to Azusa last week, a real heart breaker.”

Perhaps it fueled the Gladiators as they scored 31 of their 38 points in the second half, rolling over Workman 38-0 at Citrus College.

Gladstone (6-2, 3-1) quarterback Paul Flores completed his first nine passes of the night and finished 17 of 24 for 218 yards with three touchdowns. Flores, averaging 200 passing yards per game, connected with three different receivers on touchdown passes of 26, 45 and 35 yards.

It was G-Stone’s  Andres Uribe, streaking up the middle of the field, Flores hit with a beautiful pass and catch, to cap an eight play drive (4 pass, 4 rush) to go up 7-0 with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter.

This would be the only touchdown in the first half.

The Lobos had plenty of chances to get on the scoreboard, but squandered opportunities on downs and a missed 35 yard field goal attempt. Running back Kalin Bradford was held to only 43-yards rushing on ten carries. Visibly frustrated, he threw his helmet on the floor after being removed from the game.

Workman (5-3,2-2) quarterback Richard Cabreros, finished his day 8 of 17 for 90 yards passing.

The second was all Gladstone. Receiver Dyllan Duenas caught a short pass near the sideline and raced 45 yards to make it 14-0 with 10:38 in the third. Flores’s last touchdown pass was caught by Ricky Navarrete, a 35-yard strike put G-Stone up 24-0 with 7:11 to play in the fourth.

Duenas also came up with a pick on the defensive side of the ball, which set up a short touchdown run for Gladstone.

Capping off the scoring was Alberto Fuentes on a 10-yard run, pushing the dial to 38-0.

“We try to play hard nose smash mouth football and try to get the kids to buy in,” said Sanchez after the game. “We had a great second half here, we made some adjustments and now were three and one.”

Ray Silva and Alex Reyes both came up with sacks for the Lobos. Galdstone faces Bassett next week at Citrus College. Workman has an away game against Duarte.
