1. Seattle hosts Green Bay to open the NFL season on Thursday night September 4.

2. Yankee pitcher Michael Pineda is ejected from the game against the Red Sox on Wednesday for having a foreign substance on his neck.

3. The Chicago Cubs bungled the 100th anniversary of the first game at Wrigley Field by carrying a three run lead into the ninth inning only to give up five runs and lose to Arizona 7-5.

4. Former NBA star Tracy McGrady makes the Sugar Land Skeeters roster as a pitcher.

5. The Ducks blow an early 2-0 lead and Dallas wins 4-2 to tie the Western Conference playoff series at two games each.

6. Wilson’s Shun Tsunoda batting .340 with 14 runs scored in 14 games. He’s also pitched 6.2 innings and has a 1.05 ERA.

7. Bassett linebacker Jorge Blanco 2013 stats, sophomore year: 76 tackles, 40 assisted, 116 total; Rushing: 12-66 yards, 2 TD.

8. On this date in 2004, the San Diego Chargers choose Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning with the first overall selection in the NFL draft. Manning had stated prior to the draft that he refused to play for the Chargers. With the fourth pick the New York Giants select North Carolina State QB Philip Rivers and then trade Rivers, a third round choice in the 2004 draft and first round pick in 2005 for Manning. The Chargers turn the picks into kicker Nate Kaeding and linebacker Shawne Merriman.

9. Happy Birthday to former Ram QB Vince Ferragamo who turns 60 today.
