“Everybody’s building big ships and boats

Some are building monuments, others jotting down notes

Everybody’s in despair, every girl and boy

But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here everybody’s gonna jump for joy.”— Bob Dylan

Kick it!

Oh, I’ve always been a Jose Fernandez fan!

Not an Angels fan, not a fan of the contract they gave Albert Pujols, but I couldn’t help being happy for Pujols as he blasted his 500th home run last night against the Washington Nationals.

Has there ever been a study done on why left-handers look so much smoother on the baseball diamond (basketball court too) than right-handers do?

Are the La Salle people up in arms? Am I missing it? Or do they want to be placed in the new Mission League? The Lancers are a combined 19-1 during the regular season over the last two years. They have not lost a Del Rey League game since 2011, but they’ve also been bounced twice, at home, each of the last two seasons in the first round of the playoffs.

This version of the Mission League does not feature Mary Star or Bosco Tech. Instead La Salle will be getting a steady diet (as now configured) of St. Francis, Harvard-Westlake, Salesian, and St. Paul.

I can understand wanting to move up, but this is a big jump.

Can you remember your first MLB game? Was it at Chavez Ravine? Were you a kid at the L.A. Coliseum like MVS commenter “Bobby Knight” was? Was your first experience unfortunately at the “Big A”?

Baldwin Park baseball HC Joe Laski and his daughter at her first Dodger game.

Baldwin Park baseball HC Joe Laski and his daughter at her first Dodger game.

My first game was August 4th, 1975 and the Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 9-1. Willie Crawford homered in the first inning off Bruce Dal Canton. Bill Buckner and Davey Lopes also went yard. I sat in Loge along the right field line with my brother and Arroyo’s Verne Nelson.

Cool thing, last year I took my daughter Mallory to her first baseball game. We sat in nearly the same spot I sat in, in 1975 and Carl Crawford homered in the first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers.

I’d love to read your first game experiences…if you are so inclined.

What do you think is more thorough…an IRS audit or what NFL scouts and analysts have put Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, and Blake Bortles through over the last few months?

Wrigley Field turns 100 today…Never been there.

“Should be fun to watch,” said Arroyo HC Jim Singiser (AKA: “His Arroyo Baldness”) on the line up he has put together for this summer’s SGV Shootout on July 12. “For what we are trying to accomplish, I think this is the best compilation of schools and talent we have ever had. Absolutely a diverse collection…And before the bloggers from the east San Gabriel Valley and Inland Empire attack…Yes, I know Upland and Charter Oak would beat us. Laugh out loud.”

Participating Teams: Maranatha, Monrovia, Diamond Bar, Los Altos, Buena Park, Whittier Christian, Crescenta Valley, Covina, Pasadena Marshall, South El Monte, La Puente, Rowland, Rosemead, Northview, Bell Gardens, Keppel, Mt. View, El Monte, Bassett, Gabrielino, Azusa, Arcadia, and Diamond Bar.

Last Add Del Rey: What does it look like without La Salle in 2014? Is it Bishop Montgomery’s time? Or is this the opening Cantwell needs to get back into playoff contention?

Last Add Dodger Stadium Friday Night Fireworks Show: If the game goes extra-innings they’ll stiff you and cancel the show.

Finally: No truth to the rumor the struggling L.A. Kiss are hiring El Monte OC Brian Tabatabai to help with their ailing offense.

Regards:

In regards to “Survivor”: Tony has to go home tonight.

In regards to suspensions from Brewers-Pirates fight: MLB suspends four different players, but Pirate pitcher Gerrit Cole is not one of them.

In regards to Dee Gordon: Have the Dodgers finally found a long term second baseman?

In regards to the Chicago White Sox 1980’s throwback uniforms: They inspire me to go out and play…softball.

In regards to Baldwin Park football: They do not look like a traditional Montview League team.

The Dude abides…
