The unsung Andrew McKnight is a bad dude deluxe for Burroughs

The unsung Andrew McKnight is a bad dude deluxe for Burroughs

Good Evening!

Oh, I’ve always been a Yankees fan! (Didn’t I say Yanks in six?)

Concerned only for his health, I truly believe the Philadelphia Eagles should keep Brian Westbrook out of the line up for another week…(This has nothing to do with me owning LeSean McCoy in my fantasy league…not at all…)

Anyone out there still believe in Vince Young?

The Mustain Effect: First year San Dimas defensive coordinator Brian Mustain has raised the bar for what had been a struggling defense late last season. Through eight games this year, the Saints have pitched four shutouts, including three in a row. Counting the second half shutout against Bonita, SD has not given up a point in 14 quarters. They are averaging over four sacks a game, Christian Morgan has registered 15 of them.

Through eight games in 2008, San Dimas had surrendered 192 points. Through eight games in 2009 just 67.

Speaking of defense, someone who doesn’t get enough credit at Burroughs is senior linebacker Andrew McKnight.

Anyone out there still believe in Matt Leinart?

Anyone out there believe Trevor Ariza made the right decision by signing with Houston in the offseason? Anyone in Houston still want the guy that shot five of 21 against his old team tonight?

It’s not that I’m anti-Ariza, he should be able to get all he’s worth…but it came down to the dough and status versus championships. I’m stuck in the past on this one. Michael Cooper could have been an all-star guard if he left the Lakers during the 80’s but instead he chose to play a role on five championship teams. Being a champion was more important than being a star. Ariza, so talented, could have been that guy for this version of the Lakers.

Did you know Schurr and San Gabriel, who meet this week for all the Almont marbles, have competed against each other in three different leagues?

They were both original members of the Mission Valley League in 1972 (The Spartans first season of varsity football), they met again in the Foothill League, and later came into the newly formed Almont in the early 1990’s.

They have met 31 times with Schurr leading the all-time series 23-8…The Matadors won the first three meetings under then head coach Skip Herrington and a pair of players by the name of Keith Jones and Randy Backus.

Thirty years ago today the world took a turn that we are still reckoning…this was when the U.S. embassy was taken over by radical students in Iran and 53 Americans were held hostage for 444 days.

Wow Doug Christie knocked off Dave Corzine in New Jersey…I didn’t know those guys were still playing ball.

Last Add San Gabriel: Did you know in 2003, the year they went to the CIF finals, they entered the playoffs as a third place team? They also lost to Schurr 45-28, which brought about Tim Peterson’s game night comment; “Was SG overrated? Schurr looks that way”. A month later he was driving the rooter bus for the Matadors.

Last Add Schurr: In their championship year of 2006, the Spartans lost to Downey in week two…and guess who they lost to in week two this season?

In a week ten match between Temple City and San Marino, it might all come down to the Get Back Coach…former TCer Art Carrington is now calling the shots on the San Marino sideline.

Speaking of the Rams…they host South Pasadena Friday in the 55th meeting between the schools since 1955. Temple City leads, what used to be one of the most brutal rivalries in the Rio Hondo, 39-15 all-time.

From 1955 thru 1979, TC held a slim 13-12 advantage. Since 1980, however, they’ve dominated with 26 wins against only three losses.

While the Rams currently have an 11 game winning streak, the Tigers last five wins in the series (1977, 1979, 1987, 1991, & 1997) have all come at Temple City. Meaning South Pasadena has not won at home against TC since 1976.

How’s that for research? Is that wild or what?

Speaking of streaks, in 1981 Mountain View beat Arroyo 14-13…and the Knights have not lost to the Vikings since…That’s 27 consecutive victories for Arroyo over View… And speaking of 1981, four weeks later, with a CIF berth on the line, the Knights beat El Monte 12-10 to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 1978.

The Lions wouldn’t see the playoffs again until 1986.

Stay thirsty my friends…
