(Alhambra)- Alhambra quarterback Darrian Cazarin withstood a Bell Gardens defensive onslaught to keep the Moors playoff hopes alive in a14-7 victory Friday night.

“It was on parents’ night. You can’t have a better scenario than that. You do it for mom and dad,” Moors coach Gil Ruedaflores of his team’s gutsy performance, which brought them within a game of the last playoff spot remaining in the Almont League.

Cazarin (20 of 29 225-yds 1TD) was blitzed on almost every play leading to two sacks by the Lancer’s senior linebacker Justin Munoz. Cazarin showed poise and moxy down the stretch to pull out a victory.

The game was scoreless until 3:15 left in the second quarter when Alhambra found itself just 1-yard away from a touchdown. Brandon Wilson fought his way into the end zone after he was stood up at the line of scrimmage.

Moors led 7-0 at halftime.

Lancer quarterback Josh Adame (9 of 18 94-yds 1TD 1INT) came out slinging to begin the third quarter. He completed three straight passes for 53-yards including the tying touchdown pass to Josh Peraza.

Cazarin connected with Mitchell Crokom (8 catches 115-yds) for a 57-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing possession and regained the lead 14-7.

Bell Gardens Albert Lara gave his team several chances to get back in the game. He had a blocked kick, fumble recovery, and a forced fumble late in the third.

The turnover gave Adame and the offense one last shot to tie the score. He drove his team down to the Alhambra 34, but no closer. Adame threw an interception to Moors’ James Martin.

Alhambra looks to take the third playoff spot next week against Keppel and Bell Gardens faces a tough Schurr squad.
