Knights Crush Vikes 57-7

(El Monte) –  Mt. View scored first. The problem for the Vikings is that they never scored again as Arroyo ran off 57 consecutive points in a 57-7 rout at Viking Stadium Friday night.

The Vikes struck on the game’s first play when Robert Ramos intercepted Arroyo quarterback Steven Rivera and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Vikes up 7-0.

After that it was all Arroyo. The Knights opened up a 20-7 lead after the first quarter. Mikey Vasquez scored on a 61 yard run at the 5:43 mark. A little more than a minute later, Vasquez found the end zone again on a 15 yard run.

Later in the quarter Rivera hit Jeff Salazar on a 10 yard pass to make it 20-7. In the second quarter Rivera fired two TD strikes to Chris Rodriguez for 29 and 19 yards. Rodriguez also did it on the defensive side picking off a pass and bringing it back 45 yards for a score. Just like that it was 41-7 at the break.

In the third quarter Robert Thome took a pitch from Rivera and then took it 29 yards to paydirt with 5:00 left in the period.

After the Knights hit the 50 mark on a safety, Thome scored his second touchdown of the night. This time he cut through the heart of the Viking defense for a 55 yard jaunt to account for the final score.

Arroyo improved to 4-0 in the MVL while the Vikings fell to 0-4. Next week the Knights will try to run the league table against South El Monte.
