1.  The Angels beat the Rays 7-5 and have moved to within one game of the AL West leading A’s.

2.  The Giants beat the Bills 17-13 in the Hall of Fame game to open the 2014 NFL preseason.

3.  After winning six straight, the Dodgers dropped two of three to the Cubs but remain 2.5 games ahead of the Giants.

4.  Carl Lewis won the gold medal in the 100 meter dash on this day in 1984.

5.  The Cincinnati Bengals have reached an agreement on a six-year $115 million contract with Andy Dalton which will make him the fifth highest paid quarterback in the NFL.

6.  Former Washington Redskin running back John Riggins turns 65 today.

8.  On this day in 1985, pitching for the White Sox Tom Seaver becomes the 17th pitcher to reach 300 wins.
