“Life clocks are a lie! Carousel is a lie! THERE IS NO RENEWAL!”—Logan Five

Kick it!

After spending four of the last five weeks working camps, I feel like I’m coming out of my “dead period”.

Couple of interesting things I’ve noticed in my absence. First, I have more followers on Twitter, after hardly posting for a month, then I did when I posting everyday. The message is probably the less of me the better.

Second our poll was never taken down. So after 85 votes were cast most people would prefer a sharp needle (in the eye of their choice) than to watch an NBA regular season game or suffer ESPN’s Chris Berman in any form. That is interesting.

Did anyone get a count over Hall of Fame weekend, when the subject of Ray Guy came up, how many times Berman used the expression “Da Raiders…”?

Note to Andy VillaTheDevil: You are not going to win our fantasy baseball league, so why be bitter? Let’s make a deal, I’ll give you Paul Goldschmidt, Coco Crisp, and Steve Cishek straight up for Clayton Kershaw. That’s three for one, and you know you’re on your way out anyway. Consider it an early birthday present.

I go away for a month and now we are covering L.A. Galaxy soccer…The world has changed.

So I’m working at a camp called Granite Ridge, up in Creston (about twenty minutes east of Atascadero) and start talking to a woman who says her brothers played high school football at Paso Robles in the late 1990’s. Next thing you know we matched that we were both at the 1998 Temple City-Paso Robles semifinal game. Paso won 40-7, so her honking for Brett Collins trumped my honking for then Rams tailback Jamil Frazier.

As Tim Peterson shared in his story on realignment we’ve expanded from three divisions to four, which means we’ve gone from 99 high schools last year to 131 this year. Again, as a reminder, a story about Twentynine Palms or Mission Prep might not seem to have relevance but they do…Those teams play in the Northwest Division, which means teams that we are familiar with like Rio Hondo Prep, Whittier Christian, and Maranatha will be seeing, potentially, these programs in the post season. This is why it matters.

As of right now we’ve landed correspondents at Morro Bay, Templeton, Mission Prep, and Nipomo. However, we could use a little help in the Central with the Sunkist and Mt. Baldy Leagues…if you’re interested in phoning in updates drop me a line at the contacts below.

Regards:
In regards to Trib-Star sportswriter Steve Ramirez: We’ve tried for years to get him at the trading deadline, but its always a permanent no-go. We even offered the rights to Big Tony, the most well liked scribe in MVS history, and we still couldn’t get it done. Swinging a deal for Kevin Love will probably be easier. Why Ramirez? Because the guy is like Peterson on Biogenesis, a versatile bulldog.

In regards to gruesome injuries: Does anybody remember how Navy standout and Oakland Raider Napoleon McCallum had his career come to an end?

In regards to Andy Dalton: Are there any Bengals fans out there who think the team gave him too much money?

In regards to not watching the news: Only when the Dodgers lose to the Angels.

In regards to being at camp: No possible way to suffer even a moment of “The Jay Mohr Show”.
