SG quarterback Isaac Valdez added to his career totals while notching another Matador victory, 36-8, over the visiting Montebello Oilers Friday night in Almont League action.

Valdez (17 of 24 262 yards) was offered four scholarships earlier this week and might have earned himself more after another stellar performance.

The game was scoreless until the Matadors scored on consecutive drives. First, Valdez had a six yard touchdown run and then he hit Alex Lopez on a ten yard pass.

The Oilers offense was left scoreless in the first half as they trailed 14-0 heading into halftime.

After San Gabriel’s first drive of the second half stalled out, Montebello quarterback Dylan Gomez (10 of 16 80-yards, 3 interceptions) marched his team down the field on a 20 play-drive covering 96-yards. The march consumed the entire third quarter clock and ended with a 22-yard toss pass for a touchdown from running back Joseph Marron to receiver Chris De Leon cutting the SG lead to 14-8 with 11:53 left in the game.

Valdez and the offense responded quickly with a five play-drive where he connected with Fabian Amaro for 26-yard touchdown pass.

Gomez threw interceptions on two consecutive drives and they led to two more Matador scores by Mark Covarrubias- one on a 10 yard reception and the other a 22 yard run ending the Matadors scoring.

San Gabriel finishes second in league with a 4-1 record heading into the playoffs.

Montebello ends the season and hopes to improve next year.
