Go Golden West Young Man! Former South star Tommy Cogburn found a home at Golden West

Go Golden West Young Man! Former South star Tommy Cogburn found a home at Golden West

Good Evening!

The New England Patriots were thinking what exactly on Sunday night?

I like the San Gabriel-West Covina match this week… The Matadors have been road warriors in 2009… And dare I say (dare, dare!) have developed a bit of a chip on the shoulder…always a good thing come playoff time.

By the way I hate fantasy football again…

Note to Westco HC Mike Maggiore: Is there any special press parking available Friday night?

On this date in 2000 La Canada’s Patrick Perrigue scored three touchdowns in the Spartans 49-6 win over Workman in the first round of the playoffs.

Perrigue, so overlooked by history, was one of LC’s most versatile players of all time and proved it by taking the opening kick-off back 95-yards to paydirt. Returning a punt 57-yards for another score and hauling in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Eric Young.

On this same date in 1990 San Marino’s Wellington Choi sparked the Titans to 21-6 victory at home over El Segundo in the first round of CIF…While Temple City went on the road to Norwalk and were led by quarterback Terry Fesler to a 25-0 victory…and Arroyo took a bus ride to Cajon for a 40-9 spanking…Alhambra was blown out 47-0 at Esperanza…on the flip side Duarte scored a come from behind 25-19 victory over visiting Hesperia thanks to a pair of George Frazier touchdown passes.

Just something to think about for Charter Oak. In the semis last year the Chargers were knotted 10-10 with Rowland at the half. After, what we were led to believe was a severe tongue lashing, they picked it up in the second half and took care of business.

Sometimes CO comes out a little slow offensively, they were shutout three times in the first quarter this season and got fat on Los Altos and Bonita to make first quarter totals respectable. They SHOULD beat Muir. If my life was on the line I would take Charter Oak…but after seeing  the Mustangs this season if you are going into the fourth quarter feeling secure with a two touchdown lead or less…then think again…Muir won’t need two possessions, but just two touches…

Note to Don Lou Farrar: Put the Mustangs away early and the final could easily be 40-7…

Friday night when former landlords, the Rosemead Panthers, come to town San Marino will be playing its first home CIF game this decade. The Titans have not had a playoff victory since 1994 when they beat Bellflower 20-14 at home. They have lost eight straight playoff games since, including seven straight in the first round.

If Joey Diaz is healthy, as we are hearing whispers, and is able to complement Matt Fregoso SM better not go too easy on the Mead.

Irony? Anthony White and Temple City lost last Friday to San Marino, wouldn’t it be weird if White’s little brother, Fregoso, led the Panthers to a victory on the same field seven days later. Sort of a vicarious revenge for White.

Gotta love local football…So why, why, why would we ever send a local team to Hesperia, Esperanza, or Lompoc ever again for a playoff game?

The stats and records say you should favor Burroughs against Diamond Ranch, but the Panthers scare me…If ever a team was built for the post-season it was this one.

If you haven’t been keeping up with Duane “Bad News” Barker’s Mid Valley JUCO Wire then I’m here to tell you former Southman Tommy Cogburn is alive, well, and playing both sides of the ball at Golden West…

…And if you have been reading Duane “Bad News” Barker’s Mid Valley JUCO Wire then I don’t have to say anymore about the season former El Monte quarterback Pedro Velasquez had at East Los Angeles College…Somehow, I don’t believe his playing days are over…

If only the state of California was in the shape the Cal High football team is… I like the Condors in the rematch against Rowland…

I roll Terris Jones…

Hey, maybe, just maybe, PAC 10 football is pretty good after all.

Now that the Lakers are in the throes of a most horrifying two game losing streak, please tell me there won’t be a cry to acquire Allen Iverson…

I’m not opposed to seeing the same movie twice but didn’t they already sell Covina-Azusa tickets last year in the playoffs?

Last Add San Marino: The Titans last playoff game at home was against Duarte (another Old School Mid Valley team) in 1997.

Unless La Puente does me a HUGE favor, it looks like I’m heading to Paraclete the day after Thanksgiving…

Stay thirsty my friends…
