(Glendale)—The Crescenta Valley Falcons settled business in the Pacific League and improved to 9-0 on the season with a 49-24 win over the Pasadena Bulldogs on Thursday night at Moyse Stadium.

The Falcons came out flat. Brian Gadsby’s first pass was intercepted by the Bulldogs Elijah Trejo and returned 43-yards for a touchdown.

One problem, Pasadena was called for clipping and the ball was returned to the CV 43 yard line. It took Pasadena 8 plays and 2:16 to get back into the end zone as quarterback Jorge Reyna sneaked in from the two. Pasadena led 6-0 after the missed extra point with 8:27 to go in the first quarter.

Crescenta Valley woke up and Jonathan Jun (17 carries – 178 yards) shouldered the load on the next two drives, finishing each off with 13-yard touchdown runs. The first, Jun used a nifty twisting turn to his right to drop the Bulldog defender in his tracks as he walked into the end zone.

After Pasadena added a 25-yard field goal by Alexander Hernandez, CV turned on the jets. Gadsby (14-23, 1 Int & 3 TD’s) connected with Boston Lakin just across the goal line from 7-yards. Lakin made a tough catch between two Bulldog defenders. Next Gadsby found Connor Van Ginkel over the middle and Van Ginkel (2 catches – 72 yards) outraced the Bulldog secondary to the endzone for the 55-yard pass play.

Pasadena tried to keep the ball away from Jordan Lobianco on punts. It wasn’t sucessful on the last punt of the first half. Lobianco received the punt on the Falcons 20 by the PHS sideline. He eluded two defenders, cut across the field to his left, picked up his blockers and sprinted past the remaining Bulldog players to the goal line for a 80-yard punt return. That made 3 punt returns for touchdowns for Lobianco in the last 3 games. Crescenta Valley 35 Pasadena 9 at halftime.

The two teams traded touchdowns in the second half. CV scored on a 12-yard run by Tyler Hill and a Gadsby to Chase Walker 14-yard catch. Pasadena’s Reyna (12-26, 2 Int’s & 1 TD) hit Chaz Collins (7 catches – 143 yards) with a 60-yard throw and Joseph Thomas had a 2-yard run.

Coach Schilling responding to the victory, “It feels awesome” and said last year’s disappointing ending has been motivation for the players this season. As the CV huddle broke up, they chanted, “We don’t want to share anything” as they prepare for their rivalry game next Friday at Arcadia.
