Kick it!

Right off the top: It doesn’t have to be this sportswriter, but there should be a sportswriter sitting in during the CIF selection process. The sportswriter doesn’t even need a vote, but just the opportunity to offer input. Tape doesn’t lie, but quite often statistics and the strength of a schedule do…Take a Robledo, Ramirez, Tolegian, Peterson, Campa, or even a Nathan Cambridge…anyone of them can offer a lot of insight.

I can’t believe they waited until after Halloween to release “Marc Sanchez Has Risen From The Grave”…Goodness, I got goosebumps just thinking about him under center. Welcome to fright night…for real.

We’re told that Matt Fink will be a game time decision for Glendora tomorrow night. If he can’t go, Jeffrey London should get the start.

Can’t we just use the gas money Bassett will spend going up to Paraclete and buy the team some steaks and a BBQ?

Don’t know if anyone has said it, and I certainly have no reason to kiss kiester now, but when you take a look at Arroyo and fully grasp that they made the playoffs every single season from 1984 through 2013 it boggles the mind. Even Temple City had a hiccup or two during the Hitchcock era. It’s incredible. Two excellent coaches, great staffs, and, for the most part, an administration that knew how to support its football program.

Injury or not Cam Newton (not an awful quarterback) has peaked. He is what he is, and now this talented, running, mobile, quarterback is breaking down. Take note Colin Kaepernick.

Note to Monrovia Fans: Don’t overlook Don Lugo…I got a feeling…At first I thought it was indigestion, I popped a Pepcid…but it’s still there.

Talked about it on Tuesday’s show but I’ll say it again here…Crescenta Valley has more on the line against Harvard-Westlake this Friday night than just a first round playoff win. HC Paul Schilling most likely isn’t talking about it, but if the Falcons go down it will open the door for everyone to invalidate the 18-2 record CV has compiled over the last two seasons. Can’t say I’m rooting, but I think I am…sometimes its good when the comments board has nothing to comment about.

Note To Fans: Crescenta Valley quarterback Bryan Gadsby has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at UCLA next year.

For The Record: Azusa and El Monte have met thirteen previous times and never in the playoffs. The teams last met in 2006. The Aztecs have lost the last four meetings between the schools but leads the all time series seven to six.

Personally I think FEMA should be notified now and ready for the McAullife-Pomona game. The Red Devils could literally drop a c-note on these guys.

Did you know the last time Muir lost a first round playoff game was at Charter Oak in 2009? The Mustangs were trailing late scored a touchdown at the end of the game to make it 20-19. Then HC Ken Howard made the decision to go for two and quarterback Jarron Williams was stopped just short…It was the closest shave for the Chargers in a two-year championship run that got them shipped out of the Southeast.

Heading into 2010 Charter Oak got the boot, the Suburban League came in…and then Muir went to La Mirada in the first round and pulled off a huge upset…One that I predicted by the way…Not to talk about myself too much, but I do take a lot of heat for my picks…and I got that mother right.

Number one job I would never have wanted? Telling the South Pasadena Tigers football team that they were forfeiting the game they had just won at La Canada last Friday. Tearing cardboard at Albertsons at three in the morning never sounded so good compared to that.

Not only was the SP record dropped from 7-3 to 6-4, the school also made the decision not to petition for an at-large birth in the Central Division playoffs in the wake of the filming scandal. CIF has said the Tigers were not banned from post-season play.

Last Add South Pasadena: In fifteen completed seasons of twenty-first century football the Tigers have finished with a winning record nine times and a five-hundred record once but have only one playoff appearance during this time. They’ve had a winning record four of the last five years and have not made the playoffs. The last trip to the dance was on November 21, 2003 when they lost to Serra, 55-0.

On this night in 1975 Arcadia secured a share of the Pacific League crown with an 18-0 victory over Alhambra at Moor Field. Apache kicker and future Los Angeles Rams specialist Mike Lansford nailed a 37-yard field goal and added a 61-yard punt. Mike McClellan rushed for 112 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Maranatha has not won a first round playoff game since 2010 (def. La Puente 41-28). The last Minutemen HC to win a playoff game in his first year was Joel Murphy in 2006.

Regards:

In regards to Clayton Kershaw winning the CY Young Award: Yawn…yawn…snooze.

In regards to college football: After APU I just don’t care.

In regards to Maranatha HC Steve Bogan: Did you know know Bogan played quarterback at Edgewood High School in 1974?

In regards to Bellflower OC Derek Bedell: “I learned something new about CIF. It’s not who you play or whether you win games. It’s do the teams you play win there games.”

In regards to Harvard-Westlake versus Crescenta Valley: “CV got a tough deal after going 10-0…H-W played St. Francis as tough as anyone. H-W will be the best team CV has played this year…CV will be the 4th or 5th best team H-W has played, after Loyola, St. Francis, Cathedral…”—Village Christian HC Mark Bates
