(San Dimas) – San Dimas racked up over 300 yards on the ground and capitalized off two first quarter turnovers to fend off Valley Christian at home, 37-14, and advance into the Semi Final round of CIF playoffs Friday night.

S.D now prepares for a home game against Montview league Champion Azusa, who advanced to the Semi Final round of CIF for the first time in school history after defeating San Marino on a last minute game winning touchdown drive.

Ryan Kohler, who has rushed for over 1100 yards and 21 TDs on the season, led the way for the Saints and totaled 130 yards on 14 carries. Jordan Taylor and Tre Evans combined for 185 yards and finished with a touchdown run each.

“To be honest with you I thought we were going to try to throw it about 25 times,” said San Dimas coach Bill Zernickow. “But it ended up being where we needed to run the clock.”

The Saints took advantage early when Valley Christian quarterback Kevin Running mishandled the snap and Chris Miller pounced on it for the Saints. Three plays later Taylor took a hand off 31 yards to the house and it was 7-0 early in the first.

On the ensuing kickoff the Crusaders coughed up the ball and Gabe Jimenez came up with the fumble in Saints territory. After a three minute drive Evans (13 carries for 105 yards) punched in an 11 yard run for a 14-0 lead with 7:27 to play in the first.Jusin

Valley Christian, the Olympic League champs, could not find a rhythm and was playing catch up for the majority of the game.

V C quarterback Running finished 12 of 23 for 152 yards passing and kept things close after hitting Matthew Bynum in the end zone from 11 yards out to make it 14-7 in the second before the Saints pulled away. San Dimas defensive linemen Juston Winrow had Running on his heels all night and came up with four sacks.

DB/RB Dillon Corona kicked a 30 yard field goal before halftime and Dimas Sophomore Quarterback Shawn Kennedy connected with Kevin Kolbeck on a 26 yard touchdown pass, which capped off a 5-play drive highlighted by a Kohler 54-yard screen play to make it 24-7 with 8:58 to play in the third.

Kohler also scored on a 64 yard burst down the sideline, which put the Saints up 31-14 early in the fourth. Corona scored the last touchdown for the Saints on a 19 yard double reverse late in the game.

“I’m just excited to play in any game,” said Zernickow referring to Azusa. “The fact that we have it at home is even better. I’m very happy about that.”
