Chargers Dismantle Colton

By Joseph Rodriguez

(Covina)-  Playoff football is a reward for a team’s hard work that allows for the opportunity to showcase their skill against the best.  The theory is playoff football is supposed to be highly competitive. But this is just a theory, not reality.

Sometimes students, fans, parents, alumni are left watching games, when made appeared to be mismatches that validated as such. After watching a quarter or two of football between Charter Oak and Colton, it was clear the two teams were on two completely different levels.

Charter Oak came into Friday night’s game as the Hacienda #1 seed while Colton entered as the Sunkist #3 seed. The Yellowjackets came undone throughout the game by way of miscues, penalties, and turnovers. Colton’s opening drive of the game ended when a bad exchange caused a fumble which the Chargers recovered in at their own 19. This drive pretty much foreshadowed how the rest of the game would go for Colton.  The Chargers completely dominated the game from beginning to end, shutting out the Yellowjackets 49-0. The Chargers scored on seven of their 1st eight drives of the game. Five of the Chargers scoring drives consisted of four plays or less.  The Chargers move on to face San Marino on a neutral site next week. This should provide a much more formidable test for the Chargers.

  • Charter Oak’s Kam Brown was 11/17 195 yards, 2 passing TD’s ,1 rushing TD
  • Charter Oak’s Zion Echols finished with 9 carries for 144 yards 4 TD’s
  • Colton’s  Alex Toledo was 6/15 40 yards
  • Colton’s Deandre Graham fished with 19 carries for 70 yards
