(Whittier) – The LA KISS held open tryouts at Whittier College Sunday with over 180 players showing up to participate. The players were run through a series of drills which included the broad jump, the 40-yard dash, and blocking skills. The quarterbacks were separated later in the day and threw passes to receivers running slants, digs and post patterns.

KISS players A.J. Cruz, B.J. Bell and Sam Campbell were on hand to help out head coach Bob McMillen, who was hobbled and wearing a boot after having ankle replacement surgery six weeks ago. Campbell and Cruz were both signed from open tryouts. Campbell played his high school football at Crescenta Valley while Cruz hails from Santa Margarita.

The KISS finished 3-15 last year and is looking for talented and dedicated players that will turn that around. “That (3-15) won’t happen this year,” McMillen told the players as they gathered around him before the tryouts began.

The KISS open camp in February for the 2015 season. They will play their games at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

“It’s hard to believe it’s right around the corner. Camp is only 90 days away,” said LA KISS co-owner Brent Bouchy.
