A special quarterback led Nipomo to its first CIF title.

There were so many parts and pieces to the Nipomo Titans 2014 title run that to nail it down to one person brings a certain kind of injustice. This was an excellent team, marvelously coached, coming together at the perfect time in history.

Still, it is tough to see this all happening without a 6’3” quarterback firing for over 3,000 yards, 33 touchdowns, and completing 65 percent of his passes along the way. Matt Albright is that quarterback who improved on his excellent junior year (2,648 yards/29 touchdown passes) to take the Titans to the school’s first CIF title.

Three of Nipomo’s losses to Lompoc, Atascadero, and Arroyo Grande were close and earned them pats on the back for nearly knocking off upper level opponents. But the loss to Templeton in the rainstorm in Week Ten was difficult.

The team could have collapsed, the team could have folded, but Albright provided the steady hand and guided his team through the post season and into the history books. For this reason he is the MVS Northwest Division most valuable player.
