The Peterson Principle: 2/2/2015

What else is there to say on Super Bowl XLIX? I heard Pete Carroll explain “the call” four different ways on three different interviews and I still don’t get it.

You have a second down on the one yard line with with 25 seconds left and you have one timeout remaining, and you have arguably the best back in football and…you throw the ball? Explain it ten different ways and it still makes no sense. Even if Lynch doesn’t get in, then you call a time out. And you run it again. Marshawn Lynch cant gain one yard on two plays?

Carroll said he didn’t want to run against New England’s goal line unit but that’s letting the defense dictate what you do. You give it to Lynch and see if they can stop your best. Instead Malcolm Butler makes a play and it’s being ranked as the worst call in Super Bowl history. And it just might be. Can you think of a worse one?

Spoke to former South El Monte HC Ibis Aguilar Friday night at the East-West All-Star game and he hasn’t landed anywhere…as of yet. Marshall was rumored to be Aguilar’s next stop but Aguilar hasn’t talked to anybody at Marshall and dispelled that notion. He is however looking for a coaching position and should be on somebody’s sideline this season.

Still nobody has been hired to replace Aguilar at South El Monte. The search continues.

David Ramos, who was expected to be named HC at Schurr last week, still is not officially the head coach. Although Ramos is still expected to be named the head coach eventually, the job has been flown for other applicants. The Schurr administration possibly doesn’t want it to look like Ramos was already in place.

Quarterback Adam Polanco is still at Schurr but one school has already surfaced as a possible destination – Garfield. Someone posting on our website as “Polanco Family” expressed their support of Marco Ramirez and how the administration is making a mistake in letting him go. Don’t expect Polanco to be a Schurr Spartan for long.

The West was surprisingly the better team Friday night in the Hall of Fame Game at West Covina High School. Jordan Lobianco had an MVP type of night catching two touchdown passes and throwing a pass for 33 yards. And he would have been had it not been for Muir’s Brian Reyes who took home the award. Reyes picked off two passes including jumping the route on a Christian Lara pass and returning it 82 yards for a touchdown to seal the victory. Reyes gave the East receivers fits all night.

Ran into La Serna head coach Margarito Beltran at the game. Beltran, a man of few words, did utter one sentence that took me by surprise. “I think we’ll be even better this year. I really do. We have a lot of guys coming back.” The Lancers, coming off a CIF title in 2013, lost in the semi finals to CIF Champ Crescenta Valley last year. They beat St. Francis in the second round 38-35.

Only seven months until opening night.

Update: David Ramos was officially announced as the head coach at Schurr this morning.

That’s my principle.
