(South El Monte) – Long time area assistant Frank Gallardo was named the head coach at South El Monte Wednesday night Gallardo confirmed Thursday.

Gallardo spent seven years as the DC at Whittier (2002-2009) and was the DC at Bell Gardens from 2010-2012. He spent the last two years as an assistant at La Serna. Gallardo takes over for Ibis Aguilar who was dismissed in December.

“I’m just looking forward to putting a good staff together and starting the off season work outs,” Gallardo said. “As for the program I love the small community atmosphere and the toughness of the players. Reminds me a lot of where I am from at El Rancho and where I once coached at Bell Gardens.”

Even though I am from Arcadia, I heard of a good season south El Monte had under Gallardo and Mooney leadership…I really think they’d be great hires to temple City or Mark Keppel as I see as they need their help!!! #respecttoall
