1. Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Tarkanian, who built a basketball dynasty at UNLV, but who was also known for his decades long battle with the NCAA, passed away Wednesday at the age of 84.

2. Little League baseball has stripped Chicago based Jackie Robinson West of its US championship for violating a rule prohibiting the use of players who live outside the geographic area of the team it represents.

3. Former New York Knick forward Anthony Mason is fighting for his life due to a serious heart ailment.

4. The Indianapolis Colts released safety LaRon Landry, who signed a four-year, $24 million contract in 2013.

5. “When you’re wrong, you’re wrong and you’ve got to stand up and say ‘I made a mistake’ ” – Magic Johnson on Laker Executive Vice President Jim Buss.

6. Former major league All-Star, Julio Franco, 56, signed a contract to be player-manager for the Ishikawa Million Stars of the Japan league.

7. “Gabby (Gabrielino) has won 10 league championships including this year.” – MVS commenter “foreel”.

8. “Like I said, interest in SGV football is slipping.” – MVS commenter Bobby Knight on the SGV Shootout story quoting Arroyo HC Jim Singiser stating the 24 team field filled up in a day and a half.

9. Jerry Tarkanian played at Pasadena City College in 1950-’51 and coached there from 1966-’68 winning the state championship in 1967.

10. “The NCAA is so mad at Kentucky they’re going to give Cleveland State another year of probation.” – Jerry Tarkanian.
