Ready for the Super Conference?

There is currently a proposal on the table to create a Super Conference between the Del Rio and Suburban Leagues. According to an area coach it’s going to happen in 2016.

There would be three leagues that are based on each team’s sports success over the previous three seasons. In football there will be a “Top” league, a “Middle” league and a “bottom” league. The Top league would consist of La Serna, La Mirada, El Rancho, Norwalk and Mayfair. The Middle league would be California, Santa Fe, Bellflower and Whittier and the Bottom league would have Pioneer, Artesia, Glenn and Cerritos. This is tentative. Cal or Santa Fe could be moved to the Top league based on their success.

The leagues could change every two years based on performance. For instance a “Top” team could drop down into the “Bottom” league if they struggle. The teams would also be in different divisions. The Top league would compete in the Southeast Division, the Middle in the Central and the bottom in the Mid-Valley. Each league will get two guaranteed entries into the playoffs. So that means that say for instance Norwalk loses to La Serna and La Mirada in league but goes 7-3 or even 8-2 the Lancers could be left out.

This system is currently in place for schools in Orange County and seems to be working well. The proposal was originally scheduled for 2018 but is now being pushed for 2016. Reasons behind the proposal are that the Suburban League feels that La Mirada should be moved out because it dominates in just about every sport. Also Pioneer and Whittier want out of the Del Rio. CIF is looking for more parity in every sport including football.

Interesting…

Coaches on the Move

Eric Elias moving from Arcadia to Buena Park is only one of several assistant coaching changes expected over the next few weeks. The Coyotes are expected to land another experienced assistant this week and there is a Mid-Valley Division team that will announce the hiring of four or five new assistants soon. Quality assistants are as valuable as a rare diamond.

One Last KISS

Do you think you can still play? Think maybe you hung up the helmet and pads a little too soon? Now’s your time to take one more shot. The LA KISS are holding their final tryouts for the 2015 roster. The tryouts will be at Santa Ana College on Saturday February 28 at 9:00 am. Registration fees are $80.00 (95.00 at event.) Drills include 40-yard dash, broad jump and 20-yard shuttle. You never know. You might be that rare diamond that has one more chance to shine.

That’s my principle.
