(Pasadena) – Tyrek Adams hit one of two free throws with two seconds left to give Pasadena a 53-52 win over La Sierra Friday to advance to the third round of the CIF  Division 3AA playoffs.

La Sierra had one last shot but the clock ran put before a three point bomb was launched. Adams led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points, 10 in the second half.

Adams g0t the Bulldogs going early with eight points in the first quarter as Pasadena led 11-7 after one. Both teams heated up in the second quarter. Michael Henry knocked down a pair of threes for La Sierra and Nathan Jara scored six points as the Eagles broke out with a 22 point quarter. Justin Hazzard had six points for the Bulldogs to keep pace. PHS had a 17 point quarter and trailed 43-41 at the break.

Pasadena came out strong in the third scoring the first eight points of the quarter to take a 36-29 lead. Adams threw down a dunk to finish off a break and Hazzard had four points in the 8-0 run. However the Bulldogs gave it right back when La Sierra went on an eight point streak of its own to retake the advantage at 37-36.

The teams stayed even the rest of the quarter and the Eagles took a 43-41 lead heading into the fourth.

Jaylin Bledsoe hit a huge three to get the Dogs even at 48 late in the fourth. The teams traded baskets over the next two possessions. Quang Do missed a shot for La Sierra and PHS got the ball back and then called time out with 12 seconds left. Adams was fouled while driving to the hole with two seconds left and made the first and missed the second. The point was all the Bulldogs needed to get the win.

Hazzard with 12 and Bledsoe (11) joined Adams in double figures. Henry was tops in the scoring column for La Sierra with 19. Henry hit three from beyond the arc. He was the only Eagle in double digits.

Next up for Pasadena is the winner of the Northwood-Sonora in the quarterfinals.
