The Ten

(“The TEN” is not a top ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)

.) In 21 varsity games, over two seasons, Colony quarterback Josh Thompson (a senior) has thrown 37 touchdown passes, nine interceptions, and for 4,465 yards. He’s rushed for 852 yards and 20 touchdowns.

.) The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the San Francisco Giants by 4.5 games in the National League West as the second half of the MLB season begins today.

.) Greg Gano enters his second year as Wilson’s HC.

.) On this date in 1983 the Michigan Panthers beat the Philadelphia Stars 24-22 to win the first USFL championship.

.) The Cal Condors list four players on their current roster plus 285 on the offensive line. Two of those are plus 300.

.) Basketball legend Connie Hawkins turns 73 today.

.) “Vinnie Lopez left El Rancho several weeks ago, and while most felt it was a very late exit, this site still condoned the move. I expect much the same ‘kid-gloves’ treatment of Derek Brown. It’s nothing personal, just the need to remain cordial with guys who can provide marketable information.”—MVS commenter “Bottom Line”

.) “Well, actually, uh, I’m probably known as one of the best 1-on-1 basketball players in the schoolyard, and, uh… I found out through the grapevine that he’s probably one of the best basketball players in the schoolyard, and I challenged him to see who’s the best.”—Connie Hawkins on why he challenged singer songwriter Paul Simon to a basketball game.

.) “Wow. a 3-8 CV team makes the playoffs 10 years ago…. but a 8-2 CV team gets turned way from the dance by a 5-5 West Covina team in 2013????”—MVS commenter “CV”

.) What do Don Drysdale, Wes Parker, Joe Namath, and Deacon Jones all have in common?
