Jiaire Wade scores three times to lead the Titans over West Covina.

(West Covina) The Colony Titans traveled west to West Covina to take on the Bulldogs in the 2015 season opener. Both teams had to shake off some early season rust but in the end a late touchdown by Jiaire Wade put Colony up to stay 28-21.
The Bulldogs got on the board first with under a minute left in the opening stanza. Quintos Alton hauled in a 59 yard pass from Aaron McCorkle and outraced the Titan secondary to paydirt. J.D. Algandar booted home the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

Colony came back with 14 unanswered points of their own to take a 14-7 lead but West Covina answered back to tie the game going into the locker rooms at the half.

Titan quarterback Josh Thompson completed 10 of 24 passes for 157 yards and carried the ball 16 times for 110-yards.

Aaron McCorkle hit on eight of 12 passes for 165 yards with one touchdown. McCorkle also rushed for 40 yards on seven carries.

Wade was the leading ground gainer on the night with 102 yards and saw the endzone three times.
Alton had a big night for the Bulldogs with 129 receiving yards to go with the score.

Also getting in the mix a quarterback for West Covina was Isaiah Bravo who connected on six of 12 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown but had two costly interceptions.

Khalil Dorsey sealed the victory for Colony picking off Bravo late in the game and returning it for what appeared to be a touchdown. The score was called back due to a illegal block.

For at least this evening Colony skipped the option of kicking the extra point and went for the two point conversion after every score.

“I’m not satisfied by but I’m happy with our effort in game one. We have a lot of young guys on offense who have to figure it out but we did enough tonight to win” commented Colony head coach Steve Randall.

West Covina head coach Mike Maggiore talked about his teams performance after the game “We have to do a better job protecting and we have to be able to run the ball. A couple years ago that’s all we did and now we can’t do it. We have to find a way to be more consisted running the ball and take the pressure off the passing game.

Colony has their home opener next week hosting Alemany while West Covina travels to La Canada to take on St. Francis.
