Steven Comstock ran for two scores and threw for another to lead Northview to a 37-24 win over Rosemead Friday night in the season opener.

The Vikings survived an all out air assault by Rosemead as Steven Nava put the ball in the air 50 times completing 27 for 50 for 297 yards and two touchdowns.

Northview jumped on top 27-8 by halftime only to see the Panthers cut it to 27-24 with two third quarter scores.

Elijah Grijalva scored twice for the Vikings in the first quarter. The first one came on a five yard run to put the Vikes up 14-0. They needed to only two plays to go 37 yards after Rosemead fumbled.

Grijalva’s 23 yard romp later in the quarter gave Northview a 21-8 lead.

Rosemead found the end zone the first two times it had the ball in the third quarter and both times converted on two point conversions to climb within three.

But Northview countered with a one yard run by Comstock late in the third to regain control.

*** Grijalva rushed for 102 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns.

*** Comstock completed 8 of 13 for 156 yards.

*** Andres Hooper rushed for 109 yards on 12 carries for the Vikings.

*** Rosemead’s Darien Camacho caught 12 passes for 133 yards.

*** Jordan Parham hauled in seven receptions for 106 yards for the Panthers.

*** Rosemead running back Robbie Franco took a vicious hit in the third quarter and left the game with a neck injury.

*** Angel Lopez’ 13 yard run in the third quarter cut the Northview lead to 27-24 but that was as close as the Panthers got.

*** “Give credit to their quarterback. He looked really good. We’re happy with the outcome but we got a lot of things to work on, especially on defense.” – Northview HC Marcel Perez.

*** With the Vikings leading 21-8 Comstock found Paul Cooper down the right sideline, who picked up a couple of blocks, made a nice move and went 54 yards for the score.

*** One year ago to the date, on August 28 2014, Northview beat Rosemead 27-21 at San Dimas.
