(Monrovia) – Bonita scored twice in the last two minutes to upend Monrovia 40-30 Friday night on the Wildcats home field.

The Bearcats were down 30-26 late in the fourth quarter when they put together a 57 yard, ten play drive that featured two fourth down conversions. The first one was a fourth and 17 from the Monrovia 41. It appeared they had been stopped after an 11-yard pass play but a personal foul call on Monrovia gave Bonita a first down at the 15. Three plays later Tanner East lofted a pass into the corner of the end zone that Josh Peifer went up and pulled put of the sky for the go ahead touchdown. It was Peifer’s first catch of the game and gave the Bearcats a 33-30 lead with 1:44 left.

The Wildcats had one last shot but on the first play from scrimmage Dylan Flores stepped in front of an Asaph Zamora pass and turned it into six the other way with a 35 yard touchdown. The game was on ice and the Bearcat celebration was underway.

Monrovia led 24-13 at halftime fueled by a 100 yard kick off return for a touchdown by Jaylyn Newson and a 48 yard catch and run by Canaan Chandler. Bonita was up 13-3 before the Wildcats scored the last three touchdowns of the first half.

*** The lead exchanged hands four times.

*** Monrovia was in the red zone three of its first four possessions but only came away with three points.

*** Brandon Bradshaw scored three touchdowns for Bonita but had just six carries for 29 yards.

*** B.J. McLaurin had 12 carries for 121 yards and a score to lead the Bearcats.

*** Zamora put the ball in the air 40 times for Monrovia completing 19 for 255 yards and three touchdowns.

*** Aubrey Mosley had eight catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

*** Monrovia scored first on a 30 yard field goal by Gabriel Dunkle.

*** East was 12 of 29 for 135 yards and one score.

*** Lawrence Spicer led the M-Town rushing attack with 72 yards on 12 carries.

*** Zamora dislocated his shoulder on the game’s final play and is expected to be out six weeks.

*** Bonita improved to 2-0 while Monrovia dropped to 0-2.
