(La Canada) – Two scores by Jasher el Foster led St. Francis to a 36-24 win over West Covina on Friday evening at Freidman Stadium.
On a cool September night, it took the Golden Knights nearly two quarters to show their superiority over the Bulldogs who were missing their best player.
Areg Nazarian gave St. Francis a 21-14 lead late in the first half on a shifty 19-yard run. Prior to that score, the Golden Knights were actually chasing West Covina and its quick-strike offense.
Miles Bryant connected with el Foster for the second time in the evening early in the third quarter in the back of the end zone from five-yards out.
The Bulldogs cut the lead down to four after Steven Cantero scored from one-yard out. Anthony Parada was stopped one-yard short from the goal line when el Foster tackeled him after a 74-yard reception from Aaron McCorkle.
A late defense surge by St. Francis caused three late sacks and a safety to close out the victory.
- McCorkle finished the night 14 of 20 for 228 yards and two touchdowns.
- Parada had two receptions for 143 yards both were over 70 yards and his touchdown was for 69 yards.
- Usually the Bulldogs are known for their running game, they only accounted for 39 yards total. Prentis Busby finished with 32 yards rushing.
- Isaiah Love and BJ Ubani did not play for the Bulldogs.
- West Covina had three sacks on Bryant. Jacob Acosta, Andres Quezada and Jahkel Robins were credited for the sacks.
- J.D. Algandar hit a 38 yard field goal to close out the first half and cut the lead to four before half time.
- Bryant finished the night 16 of 23 for 247 yards and two touchdowns.
- El Foster caught seven passes for 135 yards, but most were highlight reel like moves that caught the attention of quite a few people.
- Nazarian finished the night with 95 yards rushing and 39 receiving yards on five catches.
- Anthony Khoshorzeh finsihed with two sacks, Gabriel Grbavac finished with a sack and touchdown.
- Matt Bazarevitsch went two for two on field goals with a long of 41 yards.
