Thursday October 8

Del Rio League

Whittier (3-2) at La Serna (3-2) at Pioneer

Del Rio League is finally here and La Serna is chomping at the bit. It’s been a nice early season run for Whittier but La Serna is a different animal. The Lancers are still the best team in league. They open the Del Rio with a win.

Friday October 9

California (1-4) at Pioneer (5-0)

Pioneer has been the talk of the town early in the season. Five straight wins has the Titan faithful feeling good. But that was then, this is now. The Titans now begin the rigors of league play. Cal has lost four straight after an opening night win over Gahr. The Condors should get back on track here. They still might be the second best team in league. Cal gets the W.

California 21 Pioneer 10

Angelus League

La Salle (4-1) at Cathedral (5-0)

Maybe the best game of the weekend. Or is it? Many people still think La Salle is fools gold. But the Lancers have only one loss and that was to a tough Bishop Diego team by six points. They’ve destroyed everybody else. Winning at Cathedral is a tall order. The Phantoms have passed all the tests so far but now they want to show who’s the best in the Angelus. Cathedral wins at home.

Cathedral 30 La Salle 27

St. Francis (4-1) at Salesian (3-2)

The Golden Knights are still smarting from that Calabasas whipping last week. They will be out to show that was an aberration. Saleisan is good, not great. St. Francis pulls away late.

St. Francis 28 Salesian 13

Pacific League

Arcadia (3-2) at Muir (1-4)

Interesting matchup. Muir is coming off a huge win over Burbank but it will all be forgotten if the Stangs drop the ball against Arcadia. The Apaches need a win to keep things rolling after two straight league wins. Expect a lot of points but in the end Muir emerges victorious. The Mustangs always seem to find a way.

Muir 35 Arcadia 31

Pasadena (3-2) at Burroughs (4-1)

Have dinner plans? Going to catch a movie? Then this is the game for you. This will be over early. The Indians will score early and often. With Burbank falling, Burroughs looks like “The Dude”. It will be over by halftime.

Burroughs 45 Pasadena 7

San Gabriel Valley League

Downey (2-3) at Dominguez (3-2)

Dominguez is for real. The Dons are a playoff team. They just aren’t league champs. Downey knows a win here makes its run to the SGV League title that much easier. The Vikes won’t let down here. Both teams like to run the ball. It could be a quick game. The Vikes win and get out of town.

Downey 24 Dominguez 21

Paramount (3-2) at Warren (4-1)

Big game here as both teams looking to start league play with a victory. The winner has the inside track to third place or higher in the SGV. Paramount has played a tougher schedule. It won’t be easy but the Pirates should have enough to hold off Warren.

Paramount 21 Warren 17
