El Monte (Mission Valley at Large) at Sierra Canyon (Gold Coast #1) at Crespi High School

Christmas came early for the Lions but they may want to return the gift after opening a trip to Crespi High School to take on Sierra Canyon. El Monte hasn’t seen anything this year like the Trailblazers have put on the field.

Schurr (Almont #2) at Baldwin Park (Montview #1)

After losing five of their first six the Spartans battled back to get to .500 and second place in the Almont. The Braves have been on a roll wining seven straight and dominating the Montview. The game will be close with Baldwin Park edging out Schurr.

Rosemead (Mission Valley #2) at Northview (Valle Vista #1) at Covina District Field

It’s déjà vu all over again for the Panthers and Vikings who met to open the season. Both teams have improved since that game and the way these teams get physical, the noise from helmets and shoulder pads banging will be heard all through the valley. Rosemead will need to control the ball and the clock and contain Steven Comstock to have a shot.

Brentwood (Gold Coast at Large) at Pomona (Miramonte #1)

The Red Devils haven’t been challenged for a month and a half and will get a decent test with Brentwood. Outside of Sierra Canyon and Linfield Christian, the Eagles schedule hasn’t been any tougher than Pomona’s. The defending Mid Valley champs should take care of business.

Viewpoint (Gold Coast at Large) at Montebello (Almont #1)

The Oilers have only lost one game this year and that was on the road against a Mid Valley Division stalwart. Zach Chulak can sling it for the Patriots and that gives them a chance. Montebello’s defense will need to be ready from the opening kickoff and the offense will need to have sustained drives.

Covina (Valle Vista at Large) at Arroyo (Mission Valley #1)

The Knights drew the short straw on which at-large team they would get. That being said, Arroyo is playing some real good football and have won seven straight. The Colts on the other side have been playing well too and battled well with Northview. The Knights are at home and that gives them the edge.

Bassett (Miramonte #2) at San Dimas (Valle Vista #2)

The Olympians have had a nice season but the rigors of the Miramonte league, with the exception of Pomona, don’t really get you ready for a team like San Dimas. Bassett can’t afford to get down early as the Saints with Jarrell Sykes and company can pound the ball and the clock. Unfortunately they will and this one will be over early.

Azusa (Montview #2) at Paraclete (Gold Coast #2) at Antelope Valley College

Well, someone had to play the Spirits in the frozen tundra of the Antelope Valley and the Aztecs drew the duty. Azusa won their last three to get to this point but playing Montview League teams really doesn’t get you ready for Paraclete and Melquise Stovall. The Spirits send the Aztecs home cold and defeated.
