Going Gonzo: 12/14/2015

This past Wednesday was the four year anniversary of Chris Paul veto trade. It got me thinking…Was that one trade the reason why the Lakers have been one of the worst teams in the NBA? And is it the reason why the Clippers are one of the best teams in the Western Conference. How ironic.

If the trade did go through, would the Lakers have more championships than the Boston Celtics?

Well, since the trade didn’t go through, the Lakers have been an embarrassing product the last couple of seasons and the Clippers are just a series away from the Finals.

Does anybody really watch college basketball in December?

I do.

Yeah, UCLA knocked off then No.1 Kentucky last week at Pauley Pavilion and topped Gonzaga 71-66 Saturday in Spokane. The Bruins are a young but mature team with only one senior on the roster. Bryce Alford leads the team with just under 16 points a game. The Bruins are going to look at Alford next Saturday when they play No.3 North Carolina

The Bruins will make the tournament in March, but the question is how far will they go.

USC is also turning heads. First, the Trojans knocked out Wichita State in the Advocare Invitational and they are quiet 7-2 to start the season.

USC is also a young team compiled of Sophomores and Juniors and is led by Jordan McLaughlin and Julian Jacobs. The two look to push the Trojans, finally, into contention in the Pac-12 South…or at least, win more than two games in conference play.
Maranatha basketball is fun to watch. They have the talent to run the floor. Trevor Stanback, who is in his final year for the Minutemen, will try to make Maranatha basketball a West Coast power. The 6-10 forward is long and athletic. He is a bad dude on the block and can anyone really post him up without getting their shot blocked?

The Minutemen will be at the Jerry Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas starting December 16. Head Coach Tim Tucker is in his second season for the Minutemen and would like to repeat as Olympic League champions.

That’s where I’m going.
