2.) Longtime area football/wrestling coach Ted Clarke turns 58 today.

3.) On this date in 1972 the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Atlanta Hawks 134 to 90 in Atlanta. Jim McMillan led the scoring with 26 points. Gail Goodrich scored 23 and Flynn Robinson added 19 as six Lakers scored in double figures. Pete Maravich led the Hawks with 17…It was Los Angeles’ 33rd consecutive victory.

6.) Seattle is at Minnesota on Sunday afternoon in the first round of the NFL Playoffs and the weather expected to be zero (Possible windchill of negative 15 to 20). Reports say it could rank as one of the 10 coldest games in NFL history. The last time the Vikings played a home playoff game outdoors was in December of 1976 in the NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams. The Vikes won, 24-13 and Tom Dempsey is still chasing Bobby Bryant.

8.) The 15 Finalist for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame are: Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Terrell Davis, Edgerrin James, Marvin Harrison, Terrell Owens, Orlando Pace, Joe Jacoby, Alan Faneca, Kevin Greene, John Lynch, Steve Atwater, Morten Andersen, Tony Dungy, and Don Coryell.

9.) Lakers rally from 90-63 third quarter deficit in Sacramento but fall to the Kings, 118-115, in Kobe Bryant’s final appearance in the state capitol.

10.) Former Oakland Raiders HC Tom Flores, two time Super Bowl champion, is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
