(“The TEN” is not a op ten but ten items worth being included in “The TEN”)  

1. USC Recruiting Coordinator Peter Sirmon has left the school to take over as DC at West Virginia.

2. UCLA receiver Thomas Duarte is leaving school to declare for the NFL draft.

3. Former Nebraska/NFL running back Lawrence Phillips, 40, was found unresponsive in his Kern Valley State California prison cell and was pronounced dead later at an outside hospital Wednesday. Suicide is suspected.

4. Ben McAdoo, who has been the New York Giants offensive coordinator for the last two years, is close to a deal as the Giants head coach.

5. The Cleveland Browns hire Hue Jackson as head coach and the Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland is apparently over.

6. Jordan McLaughlin scores 23 points to lead USC to an 89-75 win over UCLA. At 15-3 the Trojans are off to their best start in 24 years.

7. Muir stays unbeaten in the Pacific League with a 61-50 win over Burroughs.

8. La Canada routs Temple City 76-52 in the Rio Hondo League opener.

9. On this day in 1968 the Green Bay Packers beat the Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II. Bart Starr is named MVP.

10. Also on this date in 1990 the San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 30-3 in the NFC Championship game at Candlestick Park. The Rams actually drew first blood.
