In a cost cutting move the Los Angeles Rams cut defensive end Chris Long, middle linebacker James Laurinaitis and tight end Jared Cook Friday.

By releasing the trio the Rams will save about $24 million in cap space. The moves could also help the Rams sign their own free agents including cornerbacks Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson. Safeties Rodney McLeod and Mark Barron are up for free agency as well.

Long had his best seasons between 2010 and 2013 when he posted 41.5 sacks, fifth best among defensive linemen.
