Cougars Fall To Tritons In Semi-Final

(Azusa) The APU Lady Cougars fell to the UC San Diego Tritons Saturday night 87-77 at the Felix Events Center on the campus of Azusa Pacific University. The Loss ends the number one seeded Cougars run in the NCAA Divsion II West Region Playoffs.The Cougars led by Kelly Hardeman’s hot shooting sprung out to a 27-15 lead after the first quarter.

The Tritons out scored APU in the second quarter 15-11 but the Cougars hung on to a 38-30 lead at the break.

The third quarter is where things went south for APU.  Hot shooting by UC San Diego’s Farrah Shokoor and Taylor Tanita and costly turnovers by the Cougars led to a 35-18 quarter by the Tritons. At the end of three the Tritons has a 65-56 advantage that they would not relinquish.

Jones and Miriam Zabinsky knocked down some tough baskets in the final frame to pull the Cougars to within four points late but the clock was not friendly and the Cougars were forced to foul. The Tritons were money at the free throw line and extended the lead to the final 10 points.
