(East Los Angeles) – La Salle shut out Charter Oak 3-0 on Thursday and upended Upland 2-1 on Friday to advance to the championship game at the Diamond Bar Tournament at East Los Angeles College.

In between there was a 3-1 loss to Santa Fe but when Charter Oak belted Santa Fe 11-5 on Thursday the Lancers win over Upland vaulted them into Saturday’s Final.

Senior Vanessa Dwyer, who is headed to Vanguard University in the Fall, pitched complete games in both of the victories. Thursday she struck out seven and allowed just two hits while blanking Charter Oak. In the win over Upland, Dwyer again went the distance, fanning ten, walking one and giving up four hits.

“I feel good. I was a little sore but felt pretty good overall,” Dwyer said. “Our offense has been struggling a little but or defense has been great. As for me I’ve really been focusing on my pitching.”

Upland took a 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Lancers battled back with two in the the fourth and Dwyer made it hold up to win it.

In the fourth inning, trailing 1-0 Michelle Encinas, Kenzie Washington and Pat Knoop had consecutive singles and Katrina Yuzetpolsky and Lauren Vaneri also had hits in the inning. Washington and Knoop both scored to put the Lancers up one.

Dwyer then held off Upland the rest of the way to notch the victory.

La Salle improved to 6-5 on the season overall with the win.
