The smiles relay the joy at La Canada, QB Rocky Moore told us the story Tuesday night about the Spartans playoff to make the playoffs this fall.

Good Morning!

T-Minus-243 Days until “The Mid Valley Classic”

I wonder how things are going in the weight rooms…look at the countdown above…243 days until Temple City plays Arroyo…That means 236 days until Zero Week…that means even less until teams start throwing…spring workouts…passing leagues…all star games…and hell weeks…

Alhambra has started interviewing to replace the retired Gil Ruedaflores…I honestly believe Matt Koffler is not a candidate for this job.

We got San Gabriel and Rosemead playing each other this fall…This is a real good thing.

These schools last met in the season opener of 1981 with the Mats winning 16-6. The schools have not met on a regular basis since 1975 when SG was still part of the original MVL make up that included Mark Keppel, Schurr, and Monrovia.

I got a note from someone wanting us to dub this game “The Battle for the Mission Bell”… Sorry I can’t do that, we can’t do that. The battle for the bell is between SG and Gabrielino…even though they haven’t played since 2005.

The Panthers-Matadors need something new, something fresh, something peppy…I’ll accept input, but its got to be good. Don’t the schools share players from the Rosemead Rebel program? “The Rebel Bowl”? “The Rebel Classic”? “We Got Dibs Bowl”? “The Rebel Yell Classic”?

Friday the ladies at Arroyo and Rosemead start a new chapter in what may have been the best area rivalry of the previous decade.

It was the Lady Panthers in 2001, behind the Cindy Poon and Sharky Guerrero, who snapped the Lady Knights 33-game Mission Valley League winning streak.

But it was the Lady Knights with Diana Moreno, with help from former Lady Panther Teresa Nguyen, that snapped Rosemead’s 44-game MVL winning streak on January 11, 2006.

Head to head Mead holds a 12-8 advantage the last ten years, while the schools have split their meetings the last three seasons.

Suddenly Peterson is President of the Lane Kiffin Fan Club?

Why is Tom Cable putting up with Al Davis? I understand wanting something really bad, and an NFL head coaching job is gold, but not with the Oakland Raiders and not at the expense of your soul.

Cable should just walk and let Davis see if he can do any better than Hue Jackson or Marc Trestman.

The Buffalo Bills have hired Chan Gailey…oh yeah, I smell championship on that one.

Not a big UConn basketball fan, but after two NCAA titles, NIT title, and 23 seasons on the job maybe Huskie head coach Jim Calhoun should just retire. He’s taking another medical leave of absence…this one should be permanent.

The interviews with La Canada’s Rocky Moore and his father Bill Moore were excellent last night.

Rocky shared like a pro and went over his thoughts on the two-point conversion he completed to Michael Arkfeld to give the Spartans the victory over Temple City and a playoff birth.

His dad shared about his days at USC on Stan Morrison’s staff. You talk Larry Friend, Kevin Stewart, and Ronnie Holmes to me and you become Mr. Cool in my book (if indeed I have a book).

Last Add Rocky Moore: Two local coaches speaking under the condition of anonymity, said they thought Moore was the best quarterback in the Mid-Valley division.

Last Add San Gabriel: When does SG, Alhambra, and the rest of the Almont take the Midnight Express and get out of the Southeast Conference?
