4. Montebello knocked off El Rancho 4-2 last Friday to advance to the semi-finals of the CIF Divsion 4 Baseball Championships.
5. Chicago Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers turns 68 today.
6. The U.S. Men’s National Soccer knocked off Boliva 4-0 in their final Copa America warm-up. In the game the Galaxy’s Gyasi Zardes scored two goals and 17-year old Christian Pulisic scored to make him the youngest goal scorer in the modern era.
7. When the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw struck out his fifth batter Sunday night against the Mets, it gave him 100 strikeouts with just five walks. It is the first time in modern history that a pitcher has reached the 100-strikeout plateau with only five walks.
8. On this day in 1948, Schenectady Blue Jay Tommy Lasorda struck out 25 in a 15 inning game.
9. Jim Grobe has been tabbed to take over the football head coaching spot at Baylor replacing the recently fired Art Briles.
