(Glendora)— Sometimes it seems Jarell Sykes has been at San Dimas longer than Gary Prestesater…We mean in a good way.

But in a real bad way for opponents…And Sykes was bad news for Bonita in the Saints-Bearcats battle for the Smudge Pot on Friday night at Citrus College. Sykes scored three touchdowns and even blocked an extra-point to lead San Dimas to a 42-14 victory.

After turning the Bearcats back at their own 36 to open the game, the Saints offense was turned loose. Following a 15-yard run by Lyle Navarro, quarterback Joey Tamayo found Sykes over the top for a 41-yard touchdown.

Bonita responded with an 11-play 80-yard drive that was capped with a 15-yard touchdown pass from E.J Pasowicz to Dylan Flores…But the extra-point was blocked by Sykes.

And the rout was on.

Mark Holman’s team went 70 yards on eight plays, alternating with Sykes and Navarro. Navarro broke off a 17-yard run up the gut and Sykes gave San Dimas 14-6 lead at halftime with a 13-yard run to paydirt.

Two length of the field drives to start the second half and touchdowns by Daniel Jackson (14-yard run) and Navarro (4-yards) ended all discussion.

Down 28-6, Bonita rung the board with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Jason Schiller to Joey Reynolds.

Navarro and Sykes struck for touchdowns again in the fourth quarter and for the first time in four years, the Smudge Pot was going back to San Dimas.
