1. Only six of the 15 teams in the National League are above .500.

2. USC’s 52-6 loss to Alabama last Saturday was the Trojans’ worst defeat since 1966 when Notre Dame trounced them 51-0. After the game USC Head Coach John McKay told his players in the locker room “Take a shower, if you need one.”

3. Former USC HC Steve Sarkisian will join Alabama’s staff as an analyst, the team announced.

4. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, the number two overall pick in the draft, will start the opener against Cleveland.

5. Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who is now slated to be third string behind Case Keenum and Sean Mannion, will be inactive for the Monday night opener at San Francisco.

6. The Indianapolis Colts sign linebacker Akeem Ayers, who was cut by the Rams on Saturday.
