E.J. Makes It Look EZ in Bearcats Win

(South Pasadena) — Bonita running back E.J. Pasowicz rushed for 71-yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns in the Bearcats 49-28 win over South Pasadena Friday night at South Pas. high school. 

At the start of game Bonita struggled to score and contain the Tigers. In the first four series of the game the Bearcats punted and the Tigers scored on their opening possession. Quarterback Adam Arellano connected with Ben Quirk in the back of the end zone to put the Tigers up early in the first.

It didn’t take long for Bonita to answer back. After forcing the Tigers to punt, Dylan Flores takes the punt and returns it 40-yards to tie the game at seven with 3:40 left in the opening stanza.

Two plays later Arellano fumbled the exchange and was recovered by Jonathan Calderon for the Bearcats. Forty-three seconds later Pasowicz scored his first touchdown from two yards out.

On the Tigers ensuing possession Arellano fumbled while scrambling on the South Pas. 45 yard line and was recovered by Bonita. The Bearcats took five plays to extend their lead up to 21-7 ten seconds into the second quarter.

Right before intermission, both Bonita and the Tigers added touchdowns to make the halftime score 28-14.

Following the break, Pasowicz added his second rushing score with 5:31 in the third quarter.

The Tigers started to rally late in the third when Jackson Totleben took the hand off and score from 38 yards out. On the Bearcats next possession, Jonathan Calderon picked off Andrade’s pass setting them up into Bonita territory. Wasting no time, Jalen Ross to the slip screen pass and slipped his way down the field for the 47-yard score. South Pasadena trailed 35-28 with 7:55 left in the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats were able to stop the comeback when Pasowicz added his final touchdown with 4:04 left in the fourth. Ninety seconds later, John Harris took Andrade’s short pass and scored, pushing the final score 49-28.
