(El Monte) – The Arroyo girls caught some breathing room midway through the fourth quarter on key three pointers by Melissa Perez and Michelle Trieu and went on to beat Mt. View 48-34 Wednesday in Mission Valley League play.
Arroyo, (13-10 overall, 5-2 in league), moved into a second place tie with El Monte in the MVL two games back of undefeated Rosemead (7-0). Mountain View fell to 1-15 overall and 1-6 in league.
Trieu led all scorers with 11 points.
View’s Jasmine Villalobos nailed a 24 footer with 42.6 seconds to play in the third. Villalobos replicated the feat 46 tics into the final frame before Gloria Aguirre hit a bomb from the corner to shrink the Knights’ lead to 34-30 with 6:31 to play.
18 seconds later, Marzjele Holguin slipped inside for a deuce to end Arroyo’s drought before Trieu and Perez (Melissa) cashed from downtown.
Angelica Ruedas scored 5 points and contributed 11 rebounds and Raydean Perez added 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block to go along with 8 points.
Villalobos led Mountain View with 8 points. Aguirre was next with 7 followed by Lorraine Gonzales with 6 and another half-dozen plus four thefts from 4-11 junior guard Vanessa Solis.
