Comstock Quiets Colts

(Covina) — Northview quarterback Steven Comstock tossed four touchdowns and added a rushing score in the Vikings’ 49-7 win over rival Covina, Friday night at Covina District Field and retained the Crosstown Crown trophy.

The Vikings wasted no time scoring on their opening drive. After taking less than four minutes to drive the field, running back Kevin Thomas capped off the 10-play drive with a 1-yard run to put his team up 7-0 early in the first quarter.

Covina tied the game before the first quarter ended when Jeremiah Matthews intercepted a Comstock pass deep in Vikings territory. Three plays later, Wahub Mallick bulldozed his way for the score from 6-yards out.

Northview quickly responded when Comstock optioned to keep the ball and scored on a 2-yard keeper with 20 seconds left in the opening stanza.

The Vikings started to pull away in the second quarter when Comstock threw three touchdown passes, all to different receivers to go into intermission up 35-7.

Jacob Mcdonough caught a 28-yard dart from Comstock to with 9:28 to play in the half.

On the Vikings next possession, Antwaun Ayers was on the receiving end of fade route in the corner of the end zone. Finally, before the half ended, Comstock threw over two defenders to hook up with Bryan Robles on a 34-yard seam with 1:01 to play.

Comstock added his fourth touchdown pass with 3:12 in the third quarter pushing the to 42-7. The Vikings added another score in garbage time when Marquise Ogletree caught Nathan Amadeo’s tipped pass midway through the fourth.

The Vikings host Rowland next week at Covina District Field. Covina travels to Baldwin Park next week.
