(Covina) – Antwuan Ayers scored  twice on big plays and Steven Comstock threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead Northview to a 38-6 rout of Chino Friday night in the first round of the of the Division 8 CIF playoffs at Covina District Field.

Ayers landed two huge punches on the Cowboys, the second one looked like the knock out blow. On the Vikings first series on third down Comstock lofted a bomb down the left sideline that Ayers leaped up and came down with for a 74-yard touchdown.

After Alex Calderon booted a 32-yad field goal, Ayers made another big play. He fielded a Chino punt at the 20-yard line, shook off a tackle, and out ran the Cowboy coverage for 80 yards and a score to put Northview up 17-0. There were still over three minutes left in the first quarter, but the feeling in the Stadium was that it was over.

The Vikes upped it to 31-0 by halftime. The Vikings took advantage of a short field taking over at the Chino 44 and finding the end zone on ten plays. Comstock capped the march with a two-yard run.

Comstock threw his second touchdown pass of the night on the next series. On fourth down Comstock fired a strike over the middle that Jimmy Amezquita pulled down in the end zone for a 29-yard score with 35 seconds left in the half.

Chino had a chance to score early in the third quarter but Carlos Salcedo intercepted Cowboy quarterback Angel Herrera in the end zone.

Herrera was also picked off in the first half by Ayers.

The Vikings added one more score when the Cowboys went for it on fourth and five from their own nine-yard line. The Northview defense came up big and made the stop at the one-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage Comstock stormed in for the one-yard score to make it 38-0.

Chino finally got on the board in garbage time when Herrera found Willie Morris for a 32-yard touchdown pass.

Ayers finished with seven catches for 164 yards and a touchdown along with the punt return for a touchdown and the interception.

Comstock threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 42 yards and a pair of scores.

Herrera only threw the ball six times with two interceptions and a touchdown. Andrew Almazon was the workhorse on the ground for Chino with 33 carries for 119 yards.
