Los Altos Handles San Marino In First Round

(Hacienda Heights) The Los Altos Conquerors battled with the San Marino Titans Friday night in the first round of the Division Six playoffs at Los Altos High School. It was the second time this year the two teams have met and the result was the same as the Conquerors came away with away 35-14 victory. 

Los Altos got on the board first halfway through the first quarter. Tyler Nevens score on a two yard run that capped a six play 41 yard drive. Hunter White booted through the extra point for the 7-0 lead.

Four minutes later the Conquerors scored again only needing three play to cover 91 yards. It was Nevens again this time taking a screen pass from Kody Olmos and outracing the Titan defense 83 yards to paydirt. Los Altos made the 14-0 lead stand up for the remainder of the first half.

Los Altos got the ball to start the second half and picked up where they left off and marched 61 yards on six plays for another score. Olmos hooked up with Andrew Manuele who broke a tackle and raced towards the endzone. Manuele dragged a couple of Titan defenders towards the goal and stretched out and broke the plane. White came on again and took care of the extra point business.

San Marino finally got on the board with two minutes left in the third period. The Titans went on a 17 play 89 yard drive with Michael Chan getting the call on a one yard run.

It didn’t take the Conquerors long to get the points back. On the ensuing drive Nevens got the ball and got loose up the middle and was gone 67 yards to the house.

Nevens capped the scoring with another 51 yard run with 6:48 left in the final frame. Nevens finished the night with 151 yards on 16 carries and three touchdowns on the ground and the one catch for 83 yards and another score.

San Marino got on the board one last time late in the game on a 2 yard run by Chan. Chan was a workhorse for the Titans carrying the ball 42 times and gaining a tough 122 yards and the two scores.

Olmos had a solit efficient night for Los Altos hitting on nine of 13 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns.

Los Altos will travel next Friday night to Paramount to take on the Pirates in the quarterfinals of the Division Six playoffs.
